In 1969, dancer Jaque Chaurand created the Bagnolet International Choreography Competition. This first ever choreography competition, called “Le Ballet pour Demain” (Ballet for tomorrow), quickly became the catalyst for a new generation of French choreographers (“la nouvelle danse” (new dance)) as it brought with it opportunities for recognition (prizes), visibility and performance. In his new project, Nouvelle vague – Générations Bagnolet (New wave, Bagnolet Generations), Emilio Calcagno aims to give a new lease of stage life to these works which, for the most part, have never been performed outside the framework of the competition. Four prize-winning pieces have been selected, transmitted and will be performed between the 15 th and the 18 th December 2009 at the Pantin National Dance Centre’s main studio.
