As part of the twinning between Grenoble and Essen, the Grenoble Regional Academy of Fine Arts (CRR) has been in partnership with the Essen-Werden Gymnasium for a number of years. Having exchanged teachers and pupils, the two schools, joined by the Bytom Dance School (Poland), have come together to work with choreographer Jean-Claude Gallotta on the figure of Europa, the guardian goddess of the peoples destined to live together today.
Entitled les Trois voiles d’Europa, this choreography is made up of three parts bearing the names of Europa’s three sons, Rhadamanthus, Sarpedon and Minos and interspersed with filmed sequences borrowed from the films of Federico Fellini, the great European artist whom Jean-Claude Gallotta counts among his models. All the young performers come together in a white, grey and black finale, using the colours to suggest a flag that doesn’t exist, the flag of the European peoples who are aware that they represent a still enigmatic grouping in which what makes them different from each other cohabits respectfully with what binds them together.
